Personally I'm a huge fan of Soda syrup. Usually the only thing I can offer my visitors is soda syrup or wine. And yes, I realize as I'm writing this might make me sound slightly problematic. The thing about syrup (or our so called 'ranja') is it's just so easy and you have a refreshing drink within two seconds. Unfortunately, the cheap supermarket syrups are full of sugar, preservatives and other chemicals. Also, the flavors are somewhat disappointing and unnatural. Of course, what else can you expect. Luckily, the quality and choice is getting much better, and the hunt for tasty and healthier syrups will succeed. But Six Barrel Soda is just another story. All-natural, pure and simple but at the same time the most exciting flavors. I know, how excited can one get about soda syrup.... Weird sodaSix Barrel Soda describe themselves as an independent company producing weird, handmade, all-natural soft drinks. Joseph and Mike are not afraid of experimenting and creating new, exciting flavors. You want to try something different? Go for the Celery Tonic, Rhubarb and Juniper or Spiced Kola. Next to their permanently available syrups, Six Barrel makes seasonal flavors, and limited editions. These are just as surprising! Think blueberry & fennel, plum, rhubarb & juniper, feijoa, grapefruit & hops, pinot noir, pine & lemon peel, wild blackberry. Their product is made the old fashioned way: handmade in a kitchen, using real ingredients and without any preservatives. Personally, I love their design and the bottles it comes in. However, there is a reason for this choice of package: just like good beer the amber glass protects them from the sun and keeps them perfect. Get creativeThe Kiwi business based in Wellington sells throughout New Zealand and Australia. Creative bars and restaurants have discovered them already, from non- alcoholic refreshments to spicing things up in cocktail bars. The options are endless! Having my bottles waiting for me in the fridge, I'm experimenting myself. Hopefully this pure and exciting brand will cross the Dutch borders soon! Stay tuned for more brands and productsEvery week, I'll share my new findings from New Zealand. From soda's to fashion. Any exciting, authentic brand I come across I'll share on this blog. In the meantime, follow me on Instagram for more adventures.

Tucked away in a little side street of Dixon Street, you'll see a small house with the only indication of goodness in making being a little flag saying 'Peanut Butter'. Following the smell of roasted peanuts and chocolate, you'll find there is no door to enter. But a friendly face opened the window. 'Can I help you? And oh, I just finished our Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, it's still warm and a bit runny, but do you want to try some?' |
